Research:
Thesis Title: Electrospun Dual Scaffolding System with Potential for the Tissue Engineering of Muscle-Tendon Junctions

My thesis research focused on developing electrospun scaffolds to use for muscle-tendon junction composite tissue engineering. We attempted to make scaffolds that mimic the mechanical properties of muscle-tendon junction tissue with the intent of further testing to see if they will be suitable for promoting this tissue interface.

I have also been involved in clinical research looking at the differences in the use of CT scanning at referring hospitals compared to Children's hospitals for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in the pediatric population. The goal of this work is to try to determine what variables are associated with the decision to scan and how they differ at referring vs. children's hospital. We then aim to try to determine important clinical criteria that could be used to reduce the number of CT scans that are done in children with appendicitis regardless of location of initial presentation. Reducing the number of scans is important in this population as the radiation received at a young age could result in an increased risk of cancer later in life.

I have many interests and hobbies. I recently had a son so he and my wife keep me very happy and busy. When I do have time, I enjoy music (playing guitar, bass, piano, trumpet...but I dabble in these at best), beer brewing, skiing, reading about astrophysics, modern American literature, and writing.
